Grosse Pointe Woods-based College Star Counseling to Offer Strategies for Admission Success

Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.,  September 27th 2016 – College Star Counseling, a Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.-based college admissions consultancy, is hosting a free planning workshop entitled “The Best Possible College at the Lowest Possible Cost” on Tuesday September 27th, from 7:00-8:30 p.m., at The Grosse Pointe Neighborhood Club. The Neighborhood Club is located at 17510 Waterloo Street in Grosse Pointe.

The workshop will be led by College Star Counseling CEO Harry Gemuend, a Grosse Pointe native and 1978 Grosse Pointe North High School graduate. Prior to launching College Star Counseling, Gemuend served as an educational and financial planning consultant for Beechwood, Ohio-based College Planning Network, where he cultivated his expertise in college planning strategy and led hundreds of families through successful college admissions process. Prior to his role at College Planning Network, Gemuend served as vice president and managing partner of Capitol Mortgage Services, Inc. for nearly ten years.
“Most families attempt the process of applying to and paying for college by themselves, and in doing so, fail to tap into lesser-known – but invaluable – resources and tools,” said Gemuend.  “Colleges are happy to have families take this DIY approach because it means they’re going to pay top dollar. My workshop is designed to educate parents and students about the smartest, most cost-effective path to the colleges of their choice.”
Workshop attendees will benefit from best practices and tips regarding the following critical steps towards admission and acceptance, including:

  • Establishing target college criteria
  • Developing powerful essays
  • Preparing for successful SAT/ACT performance
  • Conducting a distinctive and focused interview
  • Strategizing to maximize college funding resources
  • Gathering and processing financial aid data
  • Issuing appeals

College Star Counseling applies a proven College Planning Network model, which will be detailed in the workshop.  Tens of thousands of students across the United States have benefited from the information provided in the workshop and in subsequent consultations.  College Planning Network has worked with more than 822 colleges from all across the country, including every school in the Ivy League.
